Dr. Chanda Nimbkar, Director AHD
Dr. Nimbkar has been serving as the director of the Animal Husbandry Division (AHD) of NARI since 1998. She joined AHD after completing her M. Sc in Animal Breeding and Genetics from the University of Edinburgh, U.K. in 1990. She later recieved her Ph.D. in genetic improvement of Indian Deccani sheep from University of New England, NSW, Australia in 2006. She has more than 28 years of experience in animal breeding, applied research in quantitative genetics and livestock production systems management.
She has served in several state, national and international committees and organizations like the National Commission on Farmers, many sub-groups on the planning commission of India, governing body of ICAR society and Board of Trustees, International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI), Nairobi, Kenya. She has authored/co-authored more than 60 publications in various national/international Journals and conference proceedings. She has also edited several booklets in English and simple Marathi on sheep and goat management.
She has won several accolades for her work. One of them being the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), GoI award for ‘Science and Technology Innovations for Rural Development, 2007’ for the project ‘Use of the FecB gene in Deccani breed of sheep to increase lamb production and thereby the incomes of shepherds’.
